Kirby is entering his fourth season as an assistant coach at Blackburn. Kirby is a 2017 Blackburn graduate with a degree in sport management. Kirby also serves as the head coach of the men's cross country team at Blackburn. In basketball, He has been instrumental in the programs recent success as he has served in many key roles. The Beavers made the conference tournament for the first time since 2006, and the team had the most wins since the 2004-05 season. The two previous seasons, Kirby served as one of the student-assistants for the program. In that role he was responsible for travel, practice preparation, Head JV Coach, film breakdown, scouting, and several other key components to the program. Kirby has now taken a step forward into the Head Assistant position on the Blackburn staff. Austin is spearheading recruiting efforts, instrumental in game planning and practice planning, and takes care of all travel procedures. Austin has a tremendous knack for building relationships and will be one of the best young recruiters in the area as he progresses.
Kirby also has a strong knowledge and understanding as to what is important with individual workouts. He has been giving individual lessons to athletes of all ages that focus on fundamentals and learning the game. Austin is serving as the Head JV Coach for the 2nd consecutive season. Kirby is the grandson of IBCA Hall of Famer Neil Alexander who is the Head Coach at Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Illinois.
