Pair of Penalty Kicks Hurt Beavers in Loss to Principia

Principia College scored on a pair of penalty kicks en route to a 3-0 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over Blackburn College on Saturday in Carlinville.  The Beavers played a tough first half only to go down 1-0 on the first of two penalty kicks by Kaleb Keller at the 6:16 mark.  The teams then played scoreless into halftime.  Early in the second half at 57:23 Keller fell down in the box and the subsequent foul gave him his second penalty kick of the day and he made it to put Principia up 2-0.  The Panthers added a final goal at 71:35 as Seth Arens popped a soft goal over the head of Blackburn keeper Alex Hammerlinck to give Principia the 3-0 lead.  Cole Heinbaugh was credited with the assist for Principia.

Principia out-shot the Beavers 24-5 on the afternoon including 13-0 in the first half.  The match was the conference opener for both teams as Blackburn is 1-9 overall and 0-1 in the SLIAC.  Principia is 3-2 and 1-0.  

Saturday was homecoming at Blackburn and a nice crowd was on hand for the contest as well as the halftime ceremony where members of the 1981 and 1983 men's soccer teams were recognized on their entrance into the Blackburn College Athletic Hall of Fame.  These teams each won the National Little College Athletic Association National Championship.
