The Blackburn College Softball Team swept a non-conference doubleheader from conference opponent Principia College on Tuesday night in Carlinville. The Beavers took game one 9-8 in extra innings on a walk-off single by Bobbi Morris and then thumped the Panthers in five innings by a score of 19-4 in the nitecap.
In game one, the Beavers out-hit Principia 11-9, and after the Panthers tied the game in the 7th inning, Blackburn started the bottom of the 8th with Allison Howard on second base with the tie-breaker procedure, Morris singled to give the Beavers the win. The hit made a winner out of Baylee Hughes, who pitched four innings in relief for Blackburn. Danielle Burnell was 3 for 3 at the plate while Hughes, Morris and Abby Frerichs all added a pair of hits for the Beavers.
In game two it was all Blackburn as the Beavers rapped out 17 hits and took advantage of nine Principia walks. Blackburn scored in all four innings with the big inning being the nine-run third inning. Frerichs was 3 for 4 with 5 runs battted in. Hannah Goett, Mercedes Morgan, Halle Fransen and Jordan Wood all contributed two hits each. Brooke Daniels picked up the win on the mound for Blackburn as the Beavers improve to 14-21 on the year.
