CARLINVILLE, IL — Freshmen Sophia Palmier and Gaven Vollintine earned Prairie Farms Athlete of the Week honors.
Freshman Sophia Palmier turned in one of the standout performances of the weekend. Palmier scored 1,774 points in the pentathlon, setting a new school record while becoming the first Blackburn athlete to compete in the event. She also established new program marks in the 60-meter hurdles (13.09) during the pentathlon and the 500-meter run (1:37), improving upon the previous record of 1:40 in the 500.
Freshman Gaven Vollintine delivered the highlight performance of the day, finishing 2–2 and earning a dominant 19–2 technical fall victory over a Division I opponent from Indiana University. His performance set the tone for the Beavers and demonstrated Blackburn's ability to compete with elite programs.
All of the Beavers are away this week competing. The Blackburn track and field teams return to action this Saturday at the Illinois College Jim Greene Invitational. The men's and women's basketball teams compete Thursday at MUW, while the men's wrestling team competes Friday at the Millikin Dual.
