Koenig, Perez earn Blackburn Athlete of the Week

CARLINVILLE, IL — Senior Shelby Koenig and junior Diego Perez earned Blackburn Athlete of the Week honors.

Senior Shelby Koenig delivered a dominant performance in the circle this week, posting a 2–0 record and a 1.56 ERA across three appearances. In 9.0 innings of work, she allowed just six hits and two earned runs while striking out 10 batters. Showing great control and composure, Koenig issued only two walks and consistently kept opposing hitters off balance, playing a key role in leading the team to a split with wins over Ripon and Lawrence.

Junior Diego Perez had an outstanding week at the plate in matchups against St. Norbert and MUW, hitting an impressive .625 while going 5-for-8 in two games. Perez recorded two doubles, drove in two runs, and scored once, consistently producing key hits for the offense. His strong approach at the plate and ability to deliver in important moments helped power the team throughout the week.

This week, both the baseball and softball teams are in Florida for spring break, competing in a full week of games.
