CARLINVILLE, IL — Senior Sierra Hiser and freshman Leland Branstner earned Blackburn Athlete of the Week honors.
Senior Sierra Hiser had a strong week at the plate and in clutch situations for the Beavers. Hiser hit .273 while driving in 4 RBIs and adding 3 hits across the week. She also recorded 3 doubles and delivered the game-winning hit in Blackburn's split against MUW, bringing home Kharma Giles to secure the win.
Freshman Leland Branstner led the way with a historic performance in the throwing events at the SLIAC Championship. Branstner became Blackburn's first SLIAC outdoor champion, winning the discus with a school-record throw of 42.04m (137'11"), earning 10 team points. He also added a runner-up finish in the shot put (2nd place, 8 points) and placed 4th in the hammer throw, where he set another school record with a mark of 42.37m.
Baseball is home this week against Lyon College and Spalding for its final regular-season matchups. Softball also wraps up its regular season with games at Eureka and at home against Principia. The men's and women's track teams will compete Saturday at the Monmouth Fighting Scots Invite.
