Strong 5th Lifts Beavers Over Maranatha
WATERTOWN, WI -- Blackburn College Baseball scored seven runs in the fifth inning on their way to a 10-0 victory over Maranatha Baptist University in nonconference action.
WATERTOWN, WI -- Blackburn College Baseball scored seven runs in the fifth inning on their way to a 10-0 victory over Maranatha Baptist University in nonconference action.
Junior Royce Congi led the way with three hits, with two doubles, four runs batted in and two runs. He also hit hit first home run of the season. Senior Andrew Lozano added four hits, including a triple and notched two RBI's. Sophomore Joshua Moreno added two hits and two RBI's.
Sophomore pitcher John Wolf threw the complete game and tallied eight strikeouts while allowing just two hits.
Blackburn got on the board in the fourth inning. Congi got on with a double with Lozano following with a triple to put BC up 1-0.
The fifth saw lots of big hits and scoring for Blackburn. Andrew Medina, Diego Perez and sophomore Dominic Medrano loaded the bases and Congi cleared them with his grand slam home run. Junior Harley Carney followed with a double and scored on a Lozano single. Moreno then doubled which scored Lozano and Moreno scored when a ball hit by senior CJ Brunaugh was misplayed to put Blackburn up 8-0 after the inning.
Senior RJ Arredondo added a run in the sixth after he walked. He got to third off a wild pitch and scored thanks to a sacrifice fly from Medrano.
The seventh inning saw Carney walk and steal second. He then got to third on a single from Lozano and scored on a sacrifice fly from Moreno, making it 10-0. The defense would keep the bottom of the inning clean and the Beavers picked up the win.
Blackburn will take on Maranatha Baptist again Tuesday afternoon for a doubleheader.
