Blackburn Takes on Greenville in SLIAC Doubleheader

GREENVILLE, IL -- The Blackburn College Baseball team travelled to Greenville College where they hosted the Panthers due to field conditions but were unable to come back with victory as they fell in both games of the doubleheader.
Senior Royce Congi paced the offense with five hits. Freshmen Jeremy Mazariegos and Sei Valdez both added three hits. Valdez also added a run. Sophomore Andrew Medina scored two runs while freshman Joey Congi posted two runs batted in.
Freshman Austin Wood threw six strikeouts in five innings of work with just one earned run.
In the opener, Medina and freshman Landon Harbach reached base thanks to errors by the Panthers. Sophomore Jordan Kelly was able to knock in Medina during the next at bat but Blackburn was unable to score again as they fell 12-1.
Blackburn faced a 5-0 deficit going into the bottom of the fourth inning. Medina got the inning started with a single then stole second base. Valdez came up, singled, then was able to advance to third while Medina scored. Mazariegos was able to knock in Valdez to make the score 5-2.
Greenville added three runs in the seventh but BC answered with two more runs in the eighth. Sophomore Joshua Moreno got on base to start the inning and advanced to second on a passed ball. J. Congi was up next and hit his fourth home of the season. Unfortunately, the Beavers were unable to score again and fell 8-4.
Blackburn will return to action Tuesday to host Maranatha Baptist University in nonconference action.
