Blackburn Takes on Westminster
FULTON, MO – Blackburn College Baseball took on Westminster College in a three-game series between St. Louis Intercollegiate foes but fell to the Blue Jays.

FULTON, MO – Blackburn College Baseball took on Westminster College in a three-game series between St. Louis Intercollegiate foes but fell to the Blue Jays.
Cooper Carter and senior Harley Carney led the Beavers with four hits and a run. Cooper also added a run batted in.
Senior Royce Congi posted three hits, a run and three rbi's while Andrew Medina also had three hits and added two rbi's.
The first game saw BC score two runs in the second inning. Jeremy Mazariegos was hit by a pitch and Diego Perez singled. After an out, Carter singled to load the bases. Congi followed with a single which allowed both Perez and Mazariegos to score and put BC up 2-0.
However, the Blue Jays answered with runs in the fourth to take a lead and move ahead 11-2.
In the fifth inning, freshman Joey Congi doubled and advanced to third on a groundout. Landon Harbach was up next and singled to score J. Congi. Mazariegos reached on an error before senior Brett Lander singled and scored Harbach. Carter followed with another single which scored Mazariegos and pulled the Beavers to within 11-5 but Westminster responded with runs in the next three innings to eventually win 21-5.
Saturday's second game Blackburn faced an 11-0 deficit when R. Congi was able to bat in Mazariegos for the team's lone run as they fell 15-1.
On Sunday, the two teams returned for a third matchup in which the Beavers took a fifth inning lead. Carter, R. Congi, and Carney singled to open the inning.
J. Congi came up next and singled which scored both R. Congi and Carter. After a walk by Medina loaded the bases again, Harbach hit a sacrifice fly to score Carney. Mazariegos was up next and hit a single to score J. Congi and put BC up 4-2. Unfortunately, the Blue Jays responded with a run in the fifth and more runs in the sixth to eventually win 12-6.
Blackburn returns to action Friday with two games at Eureka College, and a third game Saturday for another SLIAC three-game series.
