Men's Basketball Hits Road to Visit Rhodes
MEMPHIS, TN -- Blackburn College Men's Basketball hit the road for the first time this season as they visited Rhodes College for nonconference action Saturday. The Beavers had their highest offensive output of the season but it would not be enough as Blackburn fell 98-89.
Freshman Jaylen Jeter led the way with 22 points and four steals. Freshman Evan Jordan added 20 points. Junior Payton Cook chipped in with 12 points and a team best eight rebounds while senior Nick Cook had 10 points.
Jeter made three layups early to help the Beavers jump out to a 10-4 lead to eventually snag a 18-12 lead. The Lynx would take a 47-35 with 3:37 remaining in the first half but the Beavers answered. Cook started the run with a tip-in and Jordan hit a three. A Cook layup followed by two free throws from junior Kcion Welch and a jumper from Cook made it 47-46 with 40 seconds left in the half. Rhodes added a free throw before the horn to take the 48-46 halftime lead.
The teams traded points throughout the beginning of the second half with the teams tied at 72-72 at the 10 minute mark. Both squads continued to trade scores but Blackburn was unable to get ahead while the home team managed to pull ahead late to capture the victory.
The Beavers will return to action Thursday with a return to campus to host Spurgeon College in another nonconference matchup.
