ELSAH, IL – The Blackburn College Men's Basketball team was on the road at Principia College Saturday afternoon for more SLIAC action. The Beavers came out victorious over the Panthers, 83–59.
Blackburn was led by junior Kamerin Carter, who delivered an impressive performance with 31 points, 4 assists, and an 88% mark from beyond the arc. Other key contributors included freshmen Jaylen Jeter and Evan Jordan, as well as junior Camden Nelson. Jeter added 21 points, 6 steals, and 3 rebounds, while Jordan chipped in 12 points and Nelson followed with 9. Juniors Payton Cook and Kcion Welch led on the boards with 6 rebounds each.
Blackburn endured a choppy opening stretch as both teams fired up early threes and came up empty. The Beavers finally found the opening spark when Jordan buried a jumper to settle the offense. Principia briefly grabbed a 3–2 lead, but that advantage vanished almost immediately when Carter drilled Blackburn's first three of the game—foreshadowing what would become a night-long theme.
The game changed completely around the 14-minute mark. After Principia jumped ahead 8–7, Nelson ignited a massive surge by knocking down three consecutive threes in barely over a minute, each one widening the gap and swinging momentum sharply toward Blackburn. The Beavers' bench erupted, and from that moment the offense stayed in full rhythm. Carter followed Nelson's barrage with four first-half threes of his own, including back-to-back daggers in transition and off kick-outs. His shot-making pushed the advantage into double digits and forced Principia into repeated timeouts. Meanwhile, Cook contributed on the defensive end with key rebounds, a block at the rim, and an assist on a slicing layup from Welch. Even as Principia hung around with interior scoring, Blackburn's perimeter firepower kept the Beavers firmly in front.
Blackburn kept the pressure on to start the second half. Jordan splashed a deep three from the wing, then finished a fastbreak layup after another turnover. Carter added trips to the free-throw line and another big three to keep the momentum rolling. Cook returned to stuff a dunk attempt, and Welch continued to anchor the defense while adding a pair of free throws.
Even as Principia tried to make a dent inside, every push was answered by a Blackburn shooter. Jordan drilled yet another three, and the Beavers kept running the floor, turning stops into instant points. In the final minutes, the bench contributed energy, rebounds, and defensive effort as Blackburn maintained complete control. Principia added a few late free throws and drives, but the Beavers closed it out calmly, well ahead as the final horn sounded.
Blackburn's win was built on a nearly perfect blend—Nelson's early explosion, Carter's sustained shot-making, Jeter's second-half takeover in transition, and steady contributions from Jordan, Cook, Welch, and the supporting rotation. Timely individual moments fueled the effort, but it was Blackburn's collective energy, pressure, and shooting that turned the afternoon into a runaway 83–59 victory.
The Blackburn Men's Basketball team will not be back in action until Saturday, when they take on Emmaus in a non-conference matchup.
