CARLINVILLE, IL — The Blackburn men's basketball team controlled the tempo from the opening minutes and never let go, rolling to a commanding 71–45 win over Spalding.
The Beavers were led by freshmen Jaylen Jeter and Evan Jordan. Jeter paced the team with 19 points, two rebounds, and one steal, while Jordan added 17 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and six steals. Close behind was junior Kamerin Carter with 16 points, six rebounds, and three assists. The boards were led by junior Payton Cook, who grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Beavers set the tone early with defensive pressure and second-chance opportunities. Cook was active on both ends with rebounds and a key block, while Jordan and junior Kcion Welch helped Blackburn jump out to a quick 7–2 lead. Jordan knocked down an early three, and Carter attacked the rim to keep the momentum on Blackburn's side.
Midway through the first half, the Beavers caught fire from the perimeter. Jeter buried a three, Carter followed with one of his own, and Blackburn stretched the lead into double digits. The defensive intensity never dropped — Jordan, junior Owen Walter, and Jeter combined for multiple steals that turned into transition points. A late three from Jordan pushed the advantage to 31–17 before Blackburn carried a 31–19 lead into halftime.
Blackburn opened the second half the same way it finished the first: aggressive and confident. Jordan connected from deep again, and a series of steals led to free throws and fast-break buckets that extended the margin. A highlight dunk from Jordan energized the bench and sparked a 9–2 run that put the Beavers firmly in control.
Welch added a dunk of his own during a dominant stretch that showcased Blackburn's depth. Jeter caught fire in the final 10 minutes, drilling multiple three-pointers and finishing at the rim to stretch the lead past 20. Carter continued to steady the offense, while Cook anchored the paint with rebounds and defensive stops.
From there, Blackburn closed the game with poise. Strong ball movement, defensive pressure, and balanced scoring sealed the 71–45 victory as the Beavers finished the night in complete command.
The Blackburn men's basketball team returns to the Beaver Dome to face the Blue Jays of Westminster on Valentine's Day, February 14, with a 3:00 p.m. tipoff.
