Three Beavers Earn All-Conference Recognition
BELLEVILLE, IL - Freshman Evan Jordan was named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Freshman of the Year and a Third Team selection. Freshman Jaylen Jeter earned 6th Man of the Year, First Team All-Conference, and All-Defensive Team honors while junior Payton Cook was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
BELLEVILLE, IL -- Blackburn College Men's Basketball saw three players earn St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference accolades with freshman Evan Jordan being named the SLIAC's Freshman of the Year, freshman Jaylen Jeter earning 6th man of the Year honors, plus First Team All-Conference and All-Defensive Team recognition while junior Payton Cook was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Jordan earned SLIAC Freshman of the Year honors after averaging 17.2 points in SLIAC play. He finished the conference season shooting 46% from the field and was fifth in the league with nearly two made three-pointers per game. He set a career high with 31 points in the team's victory over Eureka College and added a 30 point game against Greenville University, and posted over 20 points seven times in conference play. Defensively, he was sixth with 2.5 steals per game and posted a career-best six steals in a win over Spalding University, and followed it with five at Westminster College. He had games of four steals in earlier games against Spalding and Westminster. He grabbed nine rebounds at Eureka for a season best.
Jeter also made an impact as he was named the 6th Man of the Year and earned First Team All-Conference and All-Defensive Team honors in his freshman season. Jeter averaged 19.6 points for third in the conference while shooting 50% from the field. Against Westminster, he tallied a career high 36 points, including a 15-17 performance from the free throw line. He finished the conference season with eight games of 20 or more points. Defensively he tallied two games with six steals and added three more with four steals. He finished conference play with a total of 47 steals and added four blocks.
Cook was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team. He averaged 6.8 points along with 5.9 rebounds during SLIAC play. He added 24 assists, nine steals and a team best 15 blocks.
The team's season came to an end Tuesday evening with a return to the SLIAC Conference Tournament
