ST. LOUIS, MO -- Blackburn College Men's Soccer collected their first win of the season by defeating the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy Wednesday afternoon.
After scoreless first half, the Beavers got on the board just three minutes into the second. The Eutetics had a threw-in deep in their defensive end which was misplayed and allowed BC to get control. In two quick passes, Blackburn found freshman Grant Eugea in the middle of the box. His first shot was blocked by the UHSP goalkeeper, but Eugea was able to settle the deflected shot and drill his next opportunity into the back of the net for his first career goal.
The hosts responded by tying the game 1-1 in the 67th minute but the Beavers answered in the 76th later. Freshman Fredy Paiz took a misplaced cross and passed it to freshman Brayden Smith a little outside the left side of the box. Smith centered the ball into freshman Cristian Cazares who managed to head it to freshman Johnny Perla on the right side and after one bounce, Perla fired the ball past the UHSP goalkeeper for his second of the year.
Blackburn outshot the Eutetics 30-11, putting 14 shots on goal to four. Paiz and Perla led the way with five shots each while Smith and Cazares both added four. Senior goalkeeper Dawson Klunk finished the day with three saves.
Bc moves to 1-3-2 on the season and now returns to their home field Saturday to host Buena Vista University.
