Late Goal Gives Blackburn Tie in SLIAC Opener
CARLINVILLE, IL -- A late goal by the Blackburn College Men’s Soccer team helped secure a 2-2 tie with Westminster College as the team kicked off St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Homecoming.

CARLINVILLE, IL -- A late goal by the Blackburn College Men's Soccer team helped secure a 2-2 tie with Westminster College as the team kicked off St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Homecoming.
The Beavers took the lead in the 30th minute when freshman Grant Eugea placed a corner kick up in the air that freshman Brayden Smith got his head on and knocked into the low left corner of the goal to take a 1-0 lead.
Westminster answered with two of their own goals in the final five minutes of the first half. Blackburn kept fighting and late in the game Shane Greathouse placed a ball into the lower left corner of the net to tie it. Freshman Henry Ibarguen set up the goal by bring the ball up the field and centered it through the Blue Jay defense right to Greathouse.
The Beavers outshot Westminster 15-4 led by Smith's seven shots.
Blackburn moves to 1-4-4 on the season and 0-0-1 in conference play while Westminister is 1-6-1 overall, 0-0-1 in SLIAC action. The Beavers return to action on Thursday, October 3rd to host Mississippi University for Women in another SLIAC tilt.
