COLUMBUS, MS -- Blackburn College Men's Soccer picked up a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory Tuesday with a 4-2 victory over Mississippi University for Women.
The Beavers got on the board early, scoring their first of the game in the 19th minutes. Cade Harper took a ball along the left sideline and booted in to the goal that resulted in the MUW goalkeeper deflecting it right to freshman Nathan Soto who was able to control the ball and put it right into the net for his fourth goal of the season.
Blackburn added a second goal before the half, scoring in the 41st minute. BC gained control of the ball after an MUW throw in that the Beavers were able to steal. The team got the ball up the right sideline and Soto was able to center the ball into the box right to senior Henry Ibarguen-Londono in front of the goal, and Ibarguen-Londono put the ball into the left corner to make it 2-0. The goal was Ibarguen-Londono's second this season.
Soto added a second goal in the 59th minute when sophomore Grant Eugea took a throw in from sophomore Brayden Smith along the team's right sideline before finding Soto in the box. Soto got control and blasted in into the top left corner for his second of the game.
In the 69th minute, sophomore Cristian Cazares got fouled inside the box which gave him a penalty kick that right into the net for his second this season.
The Owls scored two goals late in the second half but the Beavers held on to capture the 4-2 win.
The Beavers outshot the Owls 29-15 with Soto taking six with Ibarguen-Londono and Smith adding four.
Sophomore goalkeeper Juan Vargas posted four saves.
Blackburn will finish the season Tuesday with a match on their homefield against Principia College.
