Bio
Danny Stults joined the Blackburn College cross country and track and field programs in 2024, serving as the lead coach for the sprints and jumps groups while also advising and assisting with the distance and cross country programs.
Stults joined Blackburn after most recently working with the Illinois State University track and field and cross country programs, where he made an immediate impact at the Missouri Valley Conference level. While on staff, he helped guide five athletes to MVC individual championships and 17 All Valley honors, and was part of the Redbirds’ first men’s MVC cross country team title in 19 years. Under his direction, the ISU men placed four runners in the top five at the conference meet, including an individual champion.
On the track, Stults played a key role in coaching four MVC individual champions, including Illinois State’s first women’s 10,000 meter conference champion in more than 20 years. He also helped guide three athletes to qualification for the NCAA West Preliminary Championships during the outdoor season.
Prior to his time at Illinois State, Stults spent two seasons at Bradley University, where he contributed to one of the most successful stretches in Braves cross country history. During his tenure, Bradley captured three MVC team titles and set a conference record with a 17 point performance on the men’s side. In 2018, the Braves finished runner up at the NCAA Midwest Regional and qualified for the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships for the first time in program history, placing 24th nationally.
Stults also coached multiple school records on the track at Bradley, including three individual performances and the 4x400 meter relay. His athletes combined for 27 All Valley honors, with two individuals and a relay earning MVC championships.
From 2015 to 2018, Stults served as the Director of Operations for the Oklahoma State University cross country and track and field programs. In that role, he assisted with recruiting, practice planning, and meet operations, while also serving as the race director for the Cowboy Jamboree and the 2015 Big 12 Cross Country Championships. Earlier, he was a volunteer assistant coach at Oklahoma State from 2009 to 2012, helping guide the Cowboys to three straight Big 12 men’s cross country titles, back to back NCAA Division I national championships in 2009 and 2010, and a national runner up finish in 2011.
A two time all conference performer at Southeast Missouri State University, Stults helped the Redhawks win three Ohio Valley Conference championships during his collegiate career. He earned bachelor’s degrees in economics and psychology from Southeast Missouri State in 2009 and completed his master’s degree in business administration at Oklahoma State University in 2011.
Stults is a USA Track and Field Level I certified coach and previously served on the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Cross Country Executive Committee from 2018 to 2021.
