Blackburn Softball Wins Two
CLERMONT, FL -- Blackburn College Softball picked up two victories Tuesday during their spring break trip in Florida as they defeated William Peace University 4-1 and followed it with a 1-0 victory over North Central College.

CLERMONT, FL -- Blackburn College Softball picked up two victories Tuesday during their spring break trip in Florida as they defeated William Peace University 4-1 and followed it with a 1-0 victory over North Central College.
Senior Caroline Gibson led the offense with four hits and two runs batted in. Junior Kenadee Frey tallied three hits. Senior Shelby Koenig finished with six strikeouts while freshman Alexis Weber had threw strikeouts and allowed just one hit in a complete game shutout against NCC.
Against William Peace, the Beavers scored first with a run in the second inning. Frey opened the inning with a double and scored on a ball hit by freshman Kharma Giles. In the third inning, Weber reach first on an error before senior Kailynn Kruep singled. After a Frey single, Gibson singled as well which scored Kruep and Weber to put BC ahead 3-0.
Blackburn added another run in the fourth thanks to a sacrifice fly from Kruep which scored freshman Taryn Millburg and gave the team the 4-0 lead. The Pacers managed two runs in the bottom of the seventh but it wouldn't be enough as Blackburn held on for the 4-2 win.
Against North Central, senior Brianna Melchor doubled to score Giles in the second inning. Weber shut down the Cardinals offense as she allowed just two runners, a walk in the second inning, and kept the no-hitter going until one out in the seventh inning, to pick up her first career win.
With the two victories, the Beavers improve to 6-4 on the season. Blackburn returns to action Thursday when they take on Washington & Jefferson College and Dean College.
