Blackburn Defeats Dean, Falls to W& J in Softball Action

KISSIMMEE, FL -- The Blackburn College Softball team defeated Dean College 3-1 but fell to Washington & Jefferson College 3-0 in Thursday's spring break action. 

Against W&J, junior Kenadee Frey and freshman Elexus Frey led the team's offense. Freshman Jocelyn Hossler and senior Shelby Koenig both tallied three strikeouts. 

After falling to the Presidents, the team returned to take on the Bulldogs. Blackburn scored the first run in the third inning when senior Brianna Melchor singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After senior Sierra Hiser walked, senior Kailynn Kruep singled to score Melchor and put BC ahead 1-0. 

The Beavers added two more in the fourth. Sophomore Mailee Schoen and freshman Addison Ruyle singled before Koenig's single to score Schoen. Hiser knocked in Ruyle with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0. Dean scored a run in the sixth which wasn't enough and Blackburn captured the 3-1 win. 

With today's split, Blackburn is now 7-5 on the season and will finish their spring break trip Friday to take on Regis College and Haverford College.
