Softball Overwhelms Maranatha
CARLINVILLE, IL -- Blackburn College Softball hosted Maranatha Baptist University and picked up two victories, winning 21-0 and 18-3 to collect their first sweep of the 2026 season.

CARLINVILLE, IL -- Blackburn College Softball hosted Maranatha Baptist University and picked up two victories, winning 21-0 and 18-3 to collect their first sweep of the 2026 season.
Junior Kenadee Frey and sophomore Mailee Schoen led the offense with three hits and five runs batted in each. Schoen finished the day with three doubles as well.
Frey and senior Kailynn Kruep both scored a team-high four runs with Kruep adding three stolen bases and three walks.
Senior Shelby Koenig threw 12 strikeouts and allowed just one hit while senior Michelle Hollon notched eight strikeouts.
The first game saw Blackburn jump ahead 5-0 after the first inning, then score 13 runs in the second to go up 18-0. The Beavers would add two runs in third and another in the fourth to capture the 21-0 lead.
In the nightcap, BC scored two runs in the first then followed it with five runs in the second for a 7-0 lead. The team then added seven more in the third and answered a fourth inning run by the Sabercats with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. MBU responded with two runs in the top of the fifth but was unable to get any closer to give Blackburn the 18-3 win.
With the wins, the Beavers are now 10-10 on the season and will open St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Friday with a home doubleheader against Webster University.
