Blackburn Drops SLIAC Matchup
CARLINVILLE, IL — The Blackburn College women’s basketball team took on Webster University Wednesday afternoon in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup. The Beavers attempted a second-half comeback but ultimately fell short, 80–62.
CARLINVILLE, IL — The Blackburn College women's basketball team took on Webster University Wednesday afternoon in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup. The Beavers attempted a second-half comeback but ultimately fell short, 80–62.
Junior Kenadee Frey and India Harris tied for the team lead in scoring, with 12 points apiece. Senior Zoe Mitchell led the Beavers on the boards with 13 rebounds and added three assists. Frey also led the team with four assists.
In the first half, the Beavers traded baskets with Webster until the five-minute mark of the first quarter, when Webster began to pull ahead. Throughout the second quarter, Webster continued to extend its lead, and the Beavers went into halftime trailing 50–18.
In the second half, the Beavers found their spark and began knocking down shots in an attempt to regain control of the game. However, they continued to trail by a large margin, remaining down by as much as 20 points. Unable to close the gap, the Beavers saw Webster close out the game with strong defense, resulting in an 80–62 final score.
The Blackburn College women's basketball team will return to action Saturday against Principia College in another SLIAC matchup.
