BATESVILLE, AR — The Blackburn women's basketball team battled from start to finish but ultimately fell to Lyon in a fast-paced, high-scoring contest, 107–84.
The top performers for the Beavers were the Frey sisters, with freshman Elexus Frey and junior Kenadee Frey each scoring 16 points. Freshman Abby Borders also notched 16 points, while junior India Harris added 12 points. Senior Becca Benoit and freshman Vicki McGee contributed 11 points apiece.
Lyon opened the game with early momentum, jumping out to a quick lead behind transition baskets and strong interior play. Blackburn answered midway through the first quarter, sparked by Benoit, who scored multiple times in the paint to steady the offense. Harris added energy on both ends, converting fast-break opportunities and creating steals that led to easy baskets.
The Beavers found success from the perimeter as the game progressed. Elexus Frey knocked down several three-pointers, including back-to-back makes in the second and third quarters that helped Blackburn cut into the deficit. Borders also provided a spark from deep, hitting timely shots and contributing defensively with steals and rebounds.
In the second half, Blackburn continued to push the pace. Harris and Benoit combined for key baskets inside, while McGee and Kenadee Frey added points at the free-throw line and from long range. The Beavers repeatedly answered Lyon scoring runs, trimming the lead multiple times and showing fight on both ends of the floor.
Late in the game, Blackburn's bench made an impact with strong hustle plays, defensive stops, and additional scoring that kept the pressure on Lyon. Though Lyon ultimately pulled away in the closing minutes, Blackburn's effort never wavered as the Beavers fell 107–84.
The Beavers return home on Thursday to take on Spalding University, with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
