Women's Soccer Opens 2024 Season Monday
CARLINVILLE, IL – Blackburn College Women’s Soccer gets the 2024 season started Monday and brings a hard-working group with a variety of newcomers and returning players.
CARLINVILLE, IL – Blackburn College Women's Soccer gets the 2024 season started Monday and brings a hard-working group with a variety of newcomers and returning players.
Senior Alexis Drury returns and will be looked upon to lead the squad. The lone senior, Drury was named team captain and is aided by junior Kara Mantia who was also named captain. Mantia helps bring experience and a calming influence to the team.
Junior Janelle Naumann returns and is expected to lead the team's offensive attack after making 32 starts over the past two seasons. Sophomore Isabella Harrington scored a goal and two assists last season and provides some firepower from the team's backline.
Sophomore Kylie Duncan returns after scoring two goals during her freshman campaign but is expected to move to more of a goalkeeper role this season. Junior Kayla Mantia also comes back and will help aid the team's defense.
Freshman Aaliyah Edgington comes into her first season at Blackburn and will look to make a positive difference early. Edgington brings a smooth, fluid type of play and has immediately taken a leadership role on the team with her soccer knowledge.
Adding to the team's offense is freshman Stefania Scardigno and Theresa Smith. Both will join Naumann upfront and eye an immediate impact.
Also joining the team is sophomore Aurianna Henke who played softball Blackburn last year. Freshman Kenzy Barenthin is in her first year and can help the team in goal after playing for North Mac High School.
The team gets their season started Monday with a visit to Faith Baptist Bible College. The open their home schedule Friday afternoon by hosting University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy.
