Blackburn will continue its indoor season as preparation ramps up for the SLIAC Indoor Championships later this month.
JACKSONVILLE, IL – The Blackburn College track and field teams competed at the Jim Green Invite hosted by Illinois College on Saturday, continuing the indoor season.
Freshman Maya Bennett continued to reset the program standard in the sprints, once again lowering her own school records in both events she contested. Bennett set new school records in the 60 meter dash and the 200 meter dash, marking the second consecutive meet in which she improved both sprint marks for Blackburn.
Sophomore Collyn Oberkfell added another record-breaking performance on the track, breaking his own school record in the 800 meters as he continued a strong indoor campaign in the middle distances.
In the field events, sophomore Byron McNeil recorded one of the top finishes of the meet for the Beavers, placing 4th out of 19 competitors in the men’s triple jump. McNeil’s performance came in a deep and competitive field. Freshman Tristan Toss also competed in the long jump, gaining valuable experience against a strong field.
Freshman Sophia Palmier competed in a full slate of events on Saturday, taking part in the 800 meters, long jump, and high jump as she continued her strong start to the indoor season.
On the distance side, Christian Miller and Samuel Schoeneweis each competed in both the mile and the 3,000 meters, while Sam Burrows represented Blackburn in the mile and Kendrik Troutt competed in the 800 meters. The group gained valuable racing experience as the team continues to build toward conference competition.
