Track & Field Compete in IC Thursday Throwdown
JACKSONVILLE, IL -- The IC Thursday Throwdown provided a challenging day of competition for the Blackburn Beavers, as persistent winds impacted performances across the board. Despite the conditions, Blackburn athletes continued to show progress with multiple personal bests and strong early-season marks.

On the track, the Beavers saw several standout performances. Maya Bennett turned in a wind-aided personal best of 13.64 in the 100 meters, improving on her previous mark of 13.74. Tristan Toss also delivered a big performance in the 100 meters, running 11.21 with a wind aid to better his previous best of 11.50. In the 400-meter hurdles, Tyler Tarallo dropped his time to 1:06.38.
The women's 4x400 relay team of Maya Bennett, Isabella, Sophia Palmier, and Mary Ahrens improved their season mark, finishing in 5:22.65. On the men's side, Blackburn fielded two 4x400 relay teams, with Sam Burrows, Collyn Oberkfell, Kendrik Troutt, and Christian Miller also doubling back after competing in both the 1500 and 800 meters. Sam Schoeneweis added depth in the middle-distance events, competing in both races as well.
In the field events, Blackburn continued to make strides. Youssef Mahrish and Bree opened their seasons in the javelin with throws of 23.57m and 23.52m, respectively. Bree also recorded personal bests in both the discus (23.92m) and shot put (7.96m), continuing her development across multiple throwing events. Leland Branstner highlighted the throws group with a strong mark of 41.32m in the hammer throw.
In the jumps, Sophia Palmier cleared 1.45m in the high jump, improving on her previous best of 1.42m and continuing her upward trajectory this season.
Overall, the Beavers showed growth in tough weather conditions, setting the tone for continued improvement as the outdoor season progresses.
