Blackburn Wins Two at Spalding
Blackburn College Volleyball defeated Spalding University and Eureka College Saturday
LOUISVILLE, KY -- Blackburn College Volleyball defeated Spalding University and Eureka College to pick up two St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference wins Saturday.
In the team's first match against Spalding, the Beavers faced a 2-0 deficit after the first two sets, but came back to win the third set 25-19 and followed by taking the fourth set 25-11 to force a fifth set. The fifth set saw the Beavers down 2-0 before rebounding to go ahead 9-4. Spalding managed to pull within 10-7, but would not get closer as BC captured the 15-10 set win to win the match 3-2.
Against Eureka, Blackburn gathered their fourth sweep of the year by defeating the Red Devils 25-22, 25-28 and 25-23.
Sophomore Rean Ward paced the team with 21 kills through the two matches. Freshman Rylea Black added 14 while senior Payton Moeglin had 12. Seniors Zoe Mitchell and Ella Person chipped in with 10 each. Junior Kenadee Frey tallied 62 assists and tied freshman Elexus Frey with a team best five aces.
E. Frey led the defense with a total of 42 digs. Moeglin posted 31 and K. Frey had 24.
Mitchell notched seven block assists and a total of 10 block with Black adding three solo and five total.
The wins moves Blackburn to 8-9 on the season and 3-2 in conference play. The Beavers will next head to Westminster College for a rematch against the Blue Jays on October 8.
