Blackburn Tops Hilbert on the Road
HILO, HI — The Blackburn College Women’s Basketball team opened play in the beautiful Aloha State with a well-earned 73–65 team victory over Hilbert College.

The Beavers received well-rounded contributions, with six players scoring in double figures. Junior Eiz Allende Quiñones led the way with 13 points, while seniors Zoe Mitchell, Kailynn Kruep, and junior Kenadee Frey followed with 11 points each. Senior Becca Benoit and junior India Harris added 10 points apiece.
Blackburn earned the hard-fought road win through balanced scoring, defensive pressure, and strong second-half execution.
The Beavers battled through a tight opening quarter, trading baskets early before ending the first period tied at 18–18. Multiple offensive rebounds and second-chance points helped Blackburn stay even. Benoit and Kruep provided early sparks, while Harris' energy on the glass led to key points late in the quarter.
Blackburn began to find its rhythm offensively in the second quarter. Allende and Frey knocked down timely baskets, while Mitchell and freshman Vicki McGee helped extend possessions and finish inside. Strong defensive pressure forced several Hilbert turnovers, allowing the Beavers to take a 31–28 lead into halftime.
The Beavers continued to build momentum in the third quarter. Allende scored consistently at the rim and in transition, while Mitchell and Frey converted key free throws to maintain the lead. Blackburn's defense remained active, forcing turnovers and limiting second-chance opportunities. Despite a push from Hilbert, Blackburn closed the quarter ahead 52–48.
In the fourth quarter, Blackburn took control. Harris, Allende Quinones, and Kruep combined for key baskets during an extended run that pushed the lead into double digits. Senior Gaby Solis and Frey added crucial defensive stops, while Mitchell sealed the game at the free-throw line. Blackburn outscored Hilbert in the final period to secure the eight-point win.
Balanced scoring, defensive intensity, and the ability to capitalize on turnovers proved to be the difference as the Beavers earned a quality road victory.
The Beavers return to action today against North Park at 5:00 p.m. to conclude the UH Hilo Big Island Holiday Classic.
