Blackburn Collects 2-0 Victory

MILWAUKEE, WI -- Blackburn College Women's Soccer collected their first win of the 2025 season with a 2-0 victory over Mount Mary University Wednesday afternoon.
The Beavers got on the board in the 17th minute when freshman Cristina Zelaya scored her first career goal of the season to put BC ahead 1-0. The Beavers had a throw in and found a teammate who brought the ball up field and found Vidmar between two Mount Mary defenders and the goalkeeper. Vidmar was able to get the ball past the keeper into the bottom left corner for the goal. Freshman Amelia Brown was credited with the assist.
Later in the half, Blackburn added another goal. This time, freshman Giselle Moya got possesion of the ball near midfield and was able to pass over the MMU defenders to a sprinting Vidmar. Vidmar was able to kick it past the keeper again for her second of the game and third of the year.
BC outshot the hosts 33-12 with Vidmar credited with 14 shots, eight of them on goal. Moya added six shots while Brown had five. Sophomore Stefania Scardigno posted three shots and tied Moya with two shots on goal.
Freshman goalkeepers Emma Zaidle and Allison Nebelsick combined for seven saves.
The win ends an 18-game losing streak. Blackburn will look to continue their good fortune Saturday when they host Spurgeon College in their home opener.
