Volleyball Captures 3-0 Win over Knox
CARLINVILLE, IL -- Blackburn College Volleyball captured their second sweep of the season with a 3-0 victory over Knox College.
CARLINVILLE, IL -- Blackburn College Volleyball captured their second sweep of the season with a 3-0 victory over Knox College. The Beavers took control early by winning the first set 25-17, followed by a 25-14 second set before claiming victory with a 25-12 third set win.
Pacing the team's offensive attack was Cara Pence with 11 kills. Junior Zoe Mitchell added eight while junior Payton Moeglin had seven. Sophomore Kenadee Frey aided the effort with 32 assists.
Sophomore Bailey Bennett led the defense with 18 digs. Pence chipped in with 15, Moeglin had 14 and Frey finished with 13.
The first set saw the teams start the set close, with BC winning 6-5, but the hosts rallied to pull ahead 18-10. The Prairie Fire managed to pull within 21-17, but Blackburn responded with with four straight points to win the opening set 25-17.
The Beavers scored first in the second set before Knox responded with four straight points to give them a 4-1 lead. After tying it, Blackburn soon faced a 6-4 deficit but answered back and gradually pulled ahead and took a 25-14 set win.
In the third set, the hosts took control early and cruised to a 25-12 set victory and 3-0 sweep.
Blackburn will enjoy a weekend off before resuming play when they host Fontbonne University Wednesday. Their originally scheduled match with Principia set for Saturday, October 12 was canceled.
