Volleyball Defeats Webster to Reach SLIAC Tourney; Frey Notches 1,000th Assist
WEBSTER GROVES, MO -- The Blackburn College Volleyball team defeated Webster University Saturday to capture a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament berth. During the match sophomore Kenadee Frey achieved her 1,000th Assist.

WEBSTER GROVES, MO -- The Blackburn College Volleyball team defeated Webster University Saturday to capture a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament berth. During the match sophomore Kenadee Frey achieved her 1,000th Assist.
The team opened the day by falling to Mississippi University for Women but bounced back to rally from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Gorloks 3-2.
On the day Frey tallied 74 digs, including a career-high 45 against Webster. Senior Cara Pence notched 30 kills while senior Jessica Muckensturm and junior Payton Moeglin both added 17 each.
Senior Abygail Sobczak aided the effort with five aces.
Moeglin's 40 digs led the team's defense. Pence chipped in with 25, Sobczak had 24 with Frey and sophomore Bailey Bennett posted 22. Junior Zoe Mitchell finished the day with six blocks.
Blackburn started the day with a match against MUW but fell to the Owls 3-1 to set up a must-win scenario against Webster. The Gorloks captured the first two sets to go up 3-0, but the Beavers rallied to capture the next two sets, 25-23 and 25-20, before holding on to win the fifth set 15-10.
With the win, Blackburn secured the sixth seed in the SLIAC Tournament and will now head to Fontbonne University. The match is scheduled for 7 pm on Thursday, November 14.
