TERRE HAUTE, IN -- Senior Shelby Koenig threw four strike outs against Rose Hulman Institute of Technology to give her 100 strikeouts on the season. The Blackburn College Softball team faced the Engineers in a doubleheader but were unable to capture victory.
For the season Koenig has a conference-best 101 strikeouts, putting her 50 strikeouts ahead of the next closest pitcher. She also ranks among the nations top 50 among all NCAA Division III pitchers.
In the game, Koenig threw six innings in the opener and allowed just three earned runs. However, the offense was unable to get anything going as they fell 5-0.
In the night cap, senior Julianna Tabian led the offense with two hits. Juniors Caroline Gibson and Breana Allen, and sophomore Kenadee Frey all had a hit as well. Unfortunately, the Engineers offense proved too much as RHIT won 12-2.
The Beavers will return to action Wednesday by hosting Fontbonne University in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.
